- Subject: [Q] COLLINS KWM-380 Yaesu ST7000
- To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
-
- Hi,
- I am sending this mail for a friend, kt5x, who does not have
- internet access. He has a Collins KWM-380 transceiver and a Yaesu ST7000
- amp. He would like to conenct his computer between to two so the
- computer can check the transceivers frequency and when he changes
- bands the computer will issue the commands to his yaesu amp to switch
- bands.
- In otherwords, the computer will allow him to switch bands
- from his transceiver without having to touch his amp.
-
- The problem is that he does not have the computer interface
- information for his Collins transceiver for either the hardware connection
- and the software commands.
-
- He also does not have the commands needed to talk to his Yaesu amp.
- He has written Yaesu several but has never gotten a response.
-
- Can anyone out in netland help him out?

- Ok, here's one... 147.345 repeater located in Webster, Mass. has been listed as
- being in "Princeton" since day 1, sometime back in the 70s. The repeater
- apparently was on Mt.Wachusett in Princeton for a short time on a test basis,
- but has been located in Webster since then. No one has noticed this in the past
- 15-20 years?

- Subject: Honda noisy ignitions - part 2
- To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
-
- Following my original post about noise in my Honda Accord, which started
- AFTER the installation of a new "ignitor" in my distributor, I talked
- to the service manager at my Honda dealership.
-
- He then called Honda's Customer Service Dept., in Arlington Hts, IL. After
- a few days, he finally got a call back from them.
-
- As you can expect, Honda will have nothing to do with their noise source
- which they added to my car, at their request. Their claim is that the
- part recall is needed to make the car run, and that the ham radio is not
- part of their car, therefore, it is of no concern to them.
-
- Needless to say, they haven't heard the end of this from me, but I CANNOT
- recommend Honda as a car for any amateur radio operator, given this attitude
- by the company.
-
- For note, I have bought 6 Hondas over the years. This will be the last
- Honda that I will own!
-
- For a company that has already lost it's lead as #1 in sales they can count
- out as being a future customer.

-
- This probably should be in an FAQ file.
-
- There shouldn't be any real problem with mail from Packet TO internet,
- but the problem lies with the internet TO packet direction. Problem
- is to do with FCC rules. No dirty words are allowed on packet, and
- many forms of commercial or business related messages are not allowed
- eighter. Not sure if you can order a pizza by packet, though. :-)
-
- Basically, this means that someone has to be a moderator and read all
- the mail going to packet. I doubt anyone's got that much time with
- nothing better to do. You could have a computer reject or remove all
- dirty words, but business/commercial related mail would need a human.

- The Donegal produced flier, to circulate with the IRTS
- Newsletter, is hot off the press and will soon be read
- worldwide. The flier contains advertising and information
- concerning accomodation and important details about the IRTS AGM
- and Dinner in Ballybofey, Co. Donegal, on April the 23rd and
- 24th.
-
- The Annual Dinner and General meeting will be held in Jackson's

- The hotel will be charging IR#22.00 per person sharing for B&B.
- The price of the Dinner Dance Tickets will be IR#13:00 each. It

- Subject: ITU Callsigns: How Allocated?
- To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
-
- A non-internet ham friend was asking me the other day if I knew anything
- about the history of worldwide callsign prefix allocations. I drew a
- blank, satisfied with the explanation "that's the way it is" and never
- having questioned it myself.
-
- Does anybody know of a reference text or online archive that would contain
- some of the history and procedure of how the ITU allocates callsigns?

- I tried Super Morse 4.04 a couple of months ago and failed miserably.
- Upon startup, it would complain about not finding a Sound Blaster card
- and then die.
